Smart Home -In the future do B end or do C end Market
“Before a set of full house intelligence may be more in the walk of the full market, we do villa, do large flat floor. But now we have a big problem going to the offline stores, and we find that the natural flow of the stores is very wasteful.” — Zhou Jun, CSHIA Secretary-General.
According to the introduction, last year and before, the whole house intelligence is a big trend in the industry, which also gave birth to a lot of smart home equipment manufacturers, platform manufacturers and housing developers between the cooperation.
However, due to the depression of the real estate market and the structural adjustment of the real estate developers, the idea of whole house intelligence and smart community has remained in the conceptual stage.
Earlier this year, stores became a new focus as concepts such as whole-house intelligence struggled to get off the ground. This includes hardware makers such as Huawei and Xiaomi, as well as platforms such as Baidu and JD.com.
From a larger perspective, cooperating with real estate developers and utilizing the natural flow of stores are the mainstream B and C end market sales solutions for smart home at present. However, in the B end, not only affected by the real estate market, but also hampered by other obstacles, including the task arrangement, responsibility and obligation of operation management and the allocation of authority are all problems to be solved.
“We, together with the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, are promoting the construction of group standards related to smart community and whole-house intelligence, because in the smart living system, it is not only indoor application scenarios, but also involves the operation and management of indoor, buildings, communities, real estate enterprises, including property and so on. Why is this hard to say? It involves different management parties, and when it comes to data, management is not a purely business issue.” — Ge Hantao, chief researcher of IoT industry at China ICT Academy
In other words, although the B-end market can guarantee the efficiency of product sales, it will inevitably increase more problems. The C-end market, which is direct to users, should bring more convenient services and provide higher value. At the same time, the store-style scene construction is also of great help to the sales of smart home products.
At end C – From Local Scene to Full Scene
“Many of our students have opened many stores, and they are interested in smart home, but I don’t need it for the moment. I do need local space upgrade, but there are many devices in this local space upgrade that are not satisfied at present. After the issue of Matter, many cross-platform connectivity will be accelerated, which will be more obvious in the retail end.” — Zhou Jun, CSHIA Secretary-General
At present, many enterprises have launched scenario-based solutions, including smart living room, bedroom, balcony and so on. This kind of scenario-based solution requires the assembly of multiple devices. In the past, it was often covered by a single family and multiple products or coordinated by multiple products. However, the operation experience was not good, and problems such as permission allocation and data management also caused some obstacles.
But once the Matter is settled, these problems will be solved.
“No matter whether you provide pure edge side, or provide cloud side integration of technical solutions, you need a unified protocol and interface, including security protocols, to regulate your various technical specifications and development specifications, so that we can reduce the amount of code in the specific application scenario solution development process, reduce the interaction process, reduce the maintenance process. I think it’s an important milestone for a very important industry technology.” — Ge Hantao, chief researcher of IoT industry at China ICT Academy
On the other hand, users are more tolerant in the choice from single item to scene. The arrival of local scenes can give users the maximum choice space. Not only that, but because of the high interoperability provided by Matter, an unimpeded road lies ahead from single product to local and then to comprehensive.
In addition, the construction of the scene is also a hot topic in the industry in recent years.
“The domestic ecosystem, or living environment, is more intensive, while abroad it is more dispersed. In a domestic community can be hundreds of households, thousands of households, there is a network, smart home is easy to push. Abroad, I also drive to the neighbor’s house, the middle may be a large vacant lot, not very good cloth. When you go to big cities like New York and Chicago, the environment is similar to that in China. There are a lot of similarities.” — Gary Wong, General Manager, Asia-Pacific Business Affairs, Wi-Fi Alliance
To put it simply, in the choice of the scene of smart home products, we should not only pay attention to the popularization from the point to the surface, but also start from the environment. In the area where the network is easier to be distributed, the concept of smart community can be more easily implemented.
Conclusion
With the official release of Matter 1.0, the long-standing barriers in the smart home industry will be completely broken down. For consumers and practitioners, there will be significant improvement in experience and interaction after there are no barriers. Through the certification of software, it can also make the product market more “volume” and create more differentiated new products.
At the same time, in the future, it will be easier to lay smart scenes through Matter and help small and medium-sized brands survive better. With the gradual improvement of the ecology, smart home will also usher in greater user increment.
